Wrinkly sex

January 31, 2009

Gladys Hobson has a great blog up at http://gladyshobson.wordpress.com/

She argues that the credit crunch obliges folk to seek cheap entertainment. Love-making can be cheap if you don’t count the flowers, theatre, restaurant and wine, and once you have a stable partner, those foreplay add-ins may not be always necessary. I am being careful what I say, as you can tell. Gladys makes an interesting point about the ‘free-love’ generation and where they are / what they are up to now. Her writing on sex for the wrinklys is not limited to her blog. Pop over and see for yourself to see which of her novels might stir you.

Gladys’s books can be found at her store front http://www.magpiesnestpublishing.co.uk/ and a select few at

Preditors & Editors

January 28, 2009

Good luck to Dave Kuzminski and the Preditors & Editors team who are being sued by Publish America. Many aspiring authors have had their novels published by PA not realizing that it isn’t a conventional publisher in most respects. It is almost a vanity publisher although authors don’t pay directly to have their books published with them. On the other hand the books are rather expensive and the promotion and marketing are minimal. To test the editorial efficacy of PA a group of writers cooperated to write a spoof novel called Atlanta Nights. It was written to be the worst book: characters were kiled off and then re-appeared when they shouldn’t. The book was published by PA even though it should have been vetted in an editorial session. It therefore appeared that PA will published anything sent to them as long as a contract is signed and authors are prepared to buy the copies that they subsequently sell on.

There’s more to it, but I wish the best of luck to Dave Kuzminski and P&E at the court case on February 3-4 in Richmond Virginia.

Lutz Barz reviews Exit, Pursued by a Bee

January 21, 2009

Lutz Barz is the Australian owner of rspublishing, a source of good science fiction. He possesses a lateral thinking way of writing and after reading Exit, Pursued by a Bee has etched this zany review. It contains typos and warts and somehow it doesn’t matter because it is the product of a coruscating mind, whose fingers are slower than synapses. Hence his review is like no other.

The review location is Open Salon, a kind of news blog for all sorts. Similar to Newsvine. And who do I see there? Brian Porter! Another DDP author who somehow is wherever I e-travel. Good to see you there too, Brian.

Lutz Barz (what a great name – it screams science fiction) publishes science fiction and fantasy at http://rspublishing.com.au/

Huge thanks to all that voted for my scifi Exit, Pursued by a Bee and for my friend Gladys Hobson’s romance novel, Awakenng Love, in the Preditors and Editors readers’ poll. I believe I came 2nd out of over 160 entries and Gladys came 8th in her category. The organiser is now checking all the votes for fraudulent polling before announcing the official results.

Thanks to everyone who has voted for my Exit, Pursued by a Bee science fiction mystery / thriller / adventure at the P&E poll. There is still time to vote until Wednesday 14th January.  http://www.critters.org/predpoll/novelsf.shtml

My friend,Gladys Hobson, has her marvelous Awakening Love up for vote too at the Romance section http://www.critters.org/predpoll/novelr.shtml

If you find Gladys has two Awakening Love there I voted for the first one but the two sets of votes will probably be combined by Dave Kuzminski, who runs the poll at Another Realms, Preditors and Editors. P&E exist to support all writers and gives warning of scams and sharks in the writing business.

In the meantime I have heard that my HOT AIR thrilller is to be published on 7th May in Groningen, Netherlands. Hot Air sprang from the absurdity of me lying on a hill in Somerset and watching a hot air balloon. I thought: “How would you go about shooting one of those things down! The novel won a silver award for the best unpublished novel in 2007 by World and Universal Academia in Groningen, so save your pennies.
